August Garden Notes
Are you doing your part? Certainly regenerative farming is about building healthy soil in your own garden and planting pollinator flowers to help butterflies, bees to continue doing their great work. It is more than that… it is a lifestyle. Do you choose to compost in your own garden? You can turn your food waste into gorgeous compost filled with nutrients and micro-organisms to add to your garden. In California, 18% of all material that goes into the landfill is food waste, but the rotting food never touches the soil so doesn’t decompose and gives off methane gas, a super potent green house gas. We all need to do our part to help the planet. Not sure how to start a compost area in your garden, we can help!
What to do in your garden in August?
The produce is over flowing out of the garden in August. The tomatoes, squash and peppers love the heat. Be sure to water deeply to beat the heat. Bee’s need a water source too to help them cool down in the heat of the day. Leave out a shallow pan or pot. In order to call bee’s to the water, put some stones in for a landing area and flowers. They don’t need the water to be super clean. Enjoy watching all the butterflies, bee’s hummingbirds and birds enjoying your garden. It is a great time to add some extra compost to help add nutrients to plants producing heavily this time of year. Happy Summer!
